Are the discarded ternary lithium-ion batteries polluting?

Inquire

The ternary lithium-ion battery and the lithium iron phosphate battery, as new energy batteries, have been widely used due to their advantages such as stability, long lifespan and no pollution. However, just like the issue of genetically modified organisms, this product cannot be ignored at will. When the ternary lithium-ion battery is exhausted, it is best to return it to the manufacturer for recycling. Although this product is a new energy source and claims to have no pollution to the environment and is environmentally friendly, it cannot prevent the problem of heavy metal pollution. Moreover, if it is randomly discarded, the damage to the land will also be significant.

BYD Automobile claims that the lithium iron phosphate battery, as a power energy device, causes zero pollution. Therefore, the company has great expectations for the lithium iron phosphate battery. As a new energy source, could it really cause no pollution at all? The answer is no. Whether it is a general battery or a lithium-ion battery, because the battery itself is a chemical substance, when placed in nature and as time goes by, the internal substances begin to differentiate. When the maintenance shell is damaged and the internal substances leak out, these substances may have an impact on the outside world. If one does not know how to handle it, one can first store it by oneself and send it to the collection station when there is an opportunity. In fact, there are now special garbage bins for collecting used batteries, and the garbage stations will also classify them. They can also be directly sent to the local environmental protection bureau.

In any case, the pollution caused by lithium-ion batteries still exists, but it is relatively small in comparison. We are all on the same planet, so we should start with ourselves and take responsibility. And used batteries should not be mixed with other types of household waste; they need to be disposed of separately. The call for the recycling of used batteries has been ongoing for a long time. Generally, dry batteries contain heavy metal components and are toxic, seriously damaging the environment and human health.

People need to develop an awareness of environmental protection. If we all do this, we will have an impact and the related environmental protection industries will be able to thrive. Lithium-ion battery manufacturers not only need to pay attention to the purification treatment of process waste during production, but also need to significantly improve the pollution prevention technology for used batteries.
